The Great Christmas Bake Off is a festive spin-off of The Great British Bake Off, which sees four contestants battle it out to be crowned Christmas Star Baker.
The Christmas special has been a staple part of Channel 4’s festive schedule since it first aired on Christmas Day 2016 on BBC One.
While the network, hosts, and one of the judges may have changed, The Great Christmas Bake Off’s popularity hasn’t slumped after almost ten years on TV screens.
If you love sitting down in your festive pajamas to watch it, you will be happy to know The Great Christmas Bake Off will return at 8 p.m. (GMT) on Channel 4 on Christmas Eve in the UK. If you miss the episode on December 24, 2025, you can stream the episode on All 4.
US fans can watch the festive special, known as The Great British Baking Show: Holidays, on Netflix.
It promises plenty of Christmas bakes, chaos, and unmissable entertainment, providing a fun end to a festive day with your family.
The Hosts
Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding are likely to return to host The Great Christmas Bake Off this year.
You can almost guarantee they will be up to plenty of yuletide antics that will put a smile on viewers’ faces this festive season.
The Judges
Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith are expected to return as judges on The Great Christmas Bake Off.
Each of the four contestants will be hoping to receive a Hollywood Handshake from Paul, which is almost as good as winning Christmas Star Baker.
The Contestants
The official line-up for The Great Christmas Bake Off hasn’t been officially announced, but it is expected to feature contestants from the most recent season (series 16). It is likely to include contestants who didn’t reach this year’s final.
However, it is possible that contestants from previous seasons of The Great British Bake Off will compete in the upcoming festive special.
Channel 4 is likely to announce this year’s Christmas contestants closer to the festive season.
The Prize
The winner of The Great Christmas Bake Off will win the sought-after commemorative cake stand, which is often known as the Bake Off Trophy.
They will also be presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers from the judges and will have bragging rights that they are this year’s Christmas Star Baker.
It is a huge victory for a festive contestant, as it provides them with another opportunity to experience success in the iconic tent.
The Challenges
The Great Christmas Bake Off is likely to feature the following challenges to put this year’s contestants’ baking skills to the test:
- The Signature Challenge – the bakers must create a Christmas-inspired treat that highlights their skills and personality.
- The Technical Challenge – the judges set a tough Christmas challenge that the bakers must complete with only basic instructions.
- The Showstopper Challenge – each baker must create an impressive festive bake that showcases their creativity, skills, and flavor combinations.
The showstopper also provides contestants with a final shot of redemption after a baking disaster in the tent during the signature and/or technical challenge. As a result, it may provide them a chance to win the festive special.
The contestant who impresses the judges the most during all three challenges will be named this year’s Christmas Star Baker. Don’t miss it!
