The Block, one of the most popular reality renovation shows on Australian TV, first premiered in 2003 to much acclaim but was rested following its second season.

After a six-year wait, Nine Network revived the real estate competition, with the third season returning in September 2010, with Scotty Cam joining as host.

It is now the longest-running reality show in the country and recently celebrated its 21st season in 2025.

While the season 21 auctions were heartbreaking to watch, as two couples failed to sell their properties, the Nine Network recently announced The Block will return in 2026.

Like previous seasons, the 22nd season of The Block is expected to premiere in late July or early August 2026.

The Format

Five teams of two will compete in season 22 of The Block, and each will be assigned a large property to renovate.

Every week, each team must renovate a specific room or zone within the home, such as the master bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, or backyard.

In addition to completing the room to a strict deadline, the contestants will need to renovate the space within budget and adhere to strict site rules, which is never easy.

The judges will then walk through the rooms and assign each team a score out of ten.

The winning team will receive $10,000 to add to their budget, helping them finish the property to a high standard and boosting their chances of success in the competition.

Also, the teams may occasionally play for another advantage, such as a bonus point, a car, or a financial boost at auction.

Once the properties are fully renovated, the teams will receive a reserve price for their homes, which is based on the cost of the land and the build, as well as its market value.

The teams will keep any amount of money above the reserve price, and those who make the most will win the additional $100,000 grand prize.

The Host

Scotty Cam will return as the main host of season 22 of The Block. As always, Shelley Craft will often appear as his co-host during the challenges and walkarounds.

The Judges

Veteran judges and interior designers Shayna Blaze and Darren Palmer, and high-end real estate agent Marty Fox, will return for the 22nd season of The Block.

Shayna Blaze is the longest-serving judge, as she joined the epic renovation show in 2012 (season 6), with Darren Palmer joining a year later.

Marty Fox is the newest judge on the panel, as he replaced Neal Whitaker in 2023, and provides an insightful real estate market perspective.

While design expert Neal Whitaker has stepped back from the show, he often appears as a guest judge on at least one challenge each season, meaning he may return briefly in 2026.

The Contestants

The contestants for The Block 2026 haven’t been revealed yet. Nine Network is likely to announce this year’s teams closer to its premiere date.

The Location

Season 22 of The Block will take place at Mount Eliza in Victoria, Australia. It is a beautiful coastal suburb in the Mornington Peninsula, an hour’s drive from Melbourne.

Production reportedly purchased a 1.35-hectares (3.3 acres) development site, previously owned by racing driver Rusty French, for $11 million.

The land is reportedly large enough for six residential blocks, but only five teams are expected to participate in the upcoming season.
