Simon Cowell is responsible for some of the biggest talent competitions in the world, including The X Factor and Got Talent. He has also served as a judge on various hit shows, such as American Idol and Pop Idol.
As a result, he is well-regarded for creating some of the biggest acts in the world, including One Direction, Leona Lewis, Little Mix, and Westlife.
The world-famous music mogul isnât content with his past successes and recently embarked on his next project, Simon Cowell: The Next Act, which will follow his journey to create the next boy band sensation.
The six-part unscripted docuseries will arrive on Netflix in December 2025, as cameras follow him as he attempts to build a new band from scratch, capturing the journey from open castings to the band’s debut single release.
Viewers will gain an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at every stage of the process, including the groupâs formation, Simonâs business style, and his nurturing of new talent.
The 66-year-old recently commented that a new boy band could fill a major gap in the music industry, as he said, âEvery generation deserves a megastar boy band, and I donât think there has been one to have the success of One Direction in over 14 years.â
The Auditions
Auditions for Simon Cowell: The Next Act started in various major cities in the summer of 2024, including London, Liverpool, and Dublin.
Young men, aged between 16 and 18, with a talent for singing, auditioned, hoping they had the star quality to secure a spot in the boy band.
Yet, building a new band is a huge risk for Simon Cowell, as he might struggle to repeat One Directionâs success.
He recently acknowledged the difficult task ahead, stating, âThereâs always a high degree of risk and I genuinely have no idea whatâs going to happen! We might uncover an incredible group; we might not get there.â
The Advisors
Simon Cowell: The Next Act will reportedly feature many âheavyweightsâ to help the music mogul create the next big boy band.
It is believed singer Sinitta, Simonâs long-time friend, will be by his side during the process to provide support and advice.
Also, Pete Waterman, a legendary music producer, is rumored to appear on the show, reuniting with Cowell after they served as judges on Pop Idol, a UK singing competition from the noughties.
Waterman, a member of the Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW) trio from the 1980s and 1990s, recently expressed his delight at joining the show.
He recently told The Daily Star, âI have been doing some filming with Simon for the show. It’s great fun to be doing something together again. We are best mates. I agreed to do it straight away. If Simon asked me to walk across hot coals, I’d do it.
It was an amazing time. Everyone was negative about it when I was asked to do it. My own staff told me I shouldn’t do it. But I wanted to do it, I thought going on the road with Simon would be a laugh. Me and him have always had that love-hate relationship. That’s what made Pop Idol work.â
Fortunately, you donât have too long to wait to find out who will be joining Simon Cowell: The Next Act, as it will arrive on Netflix this December. Keep your eyes peeled on the streaming platform for an official release date.
