Project Runway premiered on Bravo in 2004, following 12 talented contestants competing in various garment design challenges for the runway, before it moved to Lifetime for eleven seasons from 2009 until 2017.
The show helped launch the careers of many prolific fashion designers, including Christian Siriano, Leanne Marshall, and Austin Scarlett.
After an eight-year absence, the hit reality competition show recently made a triumphant return to TV screens, premiering on Freeform in 2025.
Season 21 also saw the return of German supermodel Heidi Klum, as she reprised her role of head judge after bowing out of the show in 2017.
Unfortunately, many fans of the series were left disappointed by the absence of host and mentor Tim Gunn, who was reportedly upset to have been overlooked. However, he was replaced by former winner and acclaimed designer, Christian Siriano, who proved a hit with fashion fans everywhere.
While the official broadcast figures haven’t been released, Project Runway consistently ranked on Hulu’s “Top 15 Today” rundown during season 21’s run.
Thanks to the show’s success in 2025, Disney Entertainment recently announced Season 22 will arrive on TV screens sometime in 2026. However, the network is yet to provide an official release date.
As season 21 premiered on July 31, 2025, season 22 of Project Runway is projected to follow a similar schedule in 2026.
The 2026 Cast
Heidi Klum will step back into the role of head Judge for season 22 of Project Runway and is an executive producer on the reality competition show.
Klum will be joined on the panel by veteran judge Nina Garcia, a Colombian fashion journalist.
Law Roach, an acclaimed American fashion stylist, is expected to return as a judge for a second time, as he enjoyed a successful debut on the reality competition show in 2025.
Christian Siriano, an American fashion designer and Project Runway winner, will return as a mentor. His experience on the show and extensive success in the industry make him the perfect guide for the designer contestants.
The Project Runway Prize
The 22nd season of Project Runway is expected to offer a similar prize to the 21st season. For instance, the winning designer is expected to win a cash prize of $200,000.
Also, they are likely to receive a magazine spread in Elle (US edition), a mentorship with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), and six months of representation from Agentry PR.
The Season 22 Contestants
The season 22 contestants haven’t been officially announced. Their names and locations are expected to be released closer to the 2026 premiere date. Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement.
According to Project Runway’s official YouTube channel, season 22 promises “new designs and endless drama,” suggesting you will not want to miss an episode when it returns in 2026.
The Network and Streaming Options
Project Runway will air on Freeform in 2026. The official premiere date is expected to be released close to its broadcast.
If you miss an episode on Freeform, you can stream season 22 on Hulu or Disney+ the next day.
