What is the Plot?
Nickel Boys is set in 1962 during the Jim Crow era in Tallahassee, Florida. It follows the story of Elwood Curtis, a young African American, who cops falsely accuse of being an accomplice to a car theft.
As a result, he is sent to Nickel Academy, a segregated reform school, and develops a close friendship with Turner. However, the two black teenagers need to stick together to survive the abuse they face at the academy and from its corrupted administrators.
