Fear Factor is an American stunt/dare game show that debuted on NBC in 2001 and is based on the Dutch TV series Now or Neverland.
After six seasons on air, the show, hosted by Joe Rogan, was cancelled in 2006 before a brief revival on the network in 2011. Six years later, MTV rebooted the series in 2017 with Ludacris as host, which ran for two seasons before its cancellation in 2018.
Fear Factor fans will be pleased to know the series is back with a fresh format and a new host, providing a daring start to 2026.
Fear Factor: House of Fear will premiere on Fox on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, with the show airing weekly on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). If you miss an episode, you can stream it the following day on Hulu.
The New Host
Johnny Knoxville, best known for his daring stunts in the Jackass franchise, will host Fear Factor: House of Fear on Fox.
His casting indicates the show is likely to feature extreme and potentially funny stunts to entertain viewers.
Fox recently published the following statement: “Johnny Knoxville is the champion of fearless entertainment. His wild sense of humor, unmatched ability to push boundaries and take on the extreme makes him the perfect fit to lead this bold new reinvention of Fear Factor.”
The Format
Fear Factor: House of Fear will drop a group of 14 strangers into a remote location where they will live together under the same roof.
During the extreme competition, the contestants will need to complete scary challenges and daring stunts that will tap into their deepest fears. Think soaring heights, being covered in swarms of insects, and disgusting food challenges.
Unlike past seasons, the Fear Factor revival features a social strategy twist that uses fear as a weapon and will cause players to lose trust in other contestants.
For instance, a contestant might use how another player performs in a tough challenge and their management of fear to their own advantage. Expect sneaky tactics, conflict, and manipulation throughout the show.
According to Sharon Levy, the CEO of Endemol Shine North America, the social experiment component will use “where we are in society and how crippled people are by fear, and how important it is to overcome that as a backbone. We are looking at it completely differently from how it has ever been done before. When you have a category like Fear Factor, which is a social experiment with real stakes, the potential of that idea excites me.”
Only one contestant will conquer all their fears in Fear Factor: House of Fear to win the competition and take home a huge grand prize.
The Prize
Fox has yet to officially confirm the grand prize for Fear Factor: House of Fear. Based on previous versions of the show, the winner is likely to walk away with tens of thousands of dollars. Keep an eye out for more details ahead of the show’s January premiere.
The Casting Process
Casting calls for Fear Factor: House of Fear were reportedly held throughout 2025. The Fox series appealed for thrill-seeking contestants who would be happy to live with others in a remote location, adopt a clever social strategy, and complete various daring stunts on the show.
