The Costume Designers Guild Awards were first held in 1999 to honor the finest costume designs from the previous year.
Presented by the Costume Designers Guild (CGD), the annual ceremony aims to provide talented costume designers with the professional recognition they deserve.
Each award shines a spotlight on the craft and its fundamental role in a film or TV show’s story and universe.
While the film categories were broader when the event started, they have since been simplified to focus on specific genres.
The awards are often viewed as a precursor for the Academy Award for Best Costume Design, as the Excellence in Period film category has a strong track record of Oscar success.
